This oration celebrates Australia’s capacity for innovation, particularly in the pursuit of better health outcomes. Highlighting both challenges and triumphs, it aims to shed light on what it takes to fulfil AusBiotech’s mantra of “Doing business in and within the global life sciences economy.” Iris Depaz embodied the necessary qualities; she had vision, drive, passion, compassion, a local and global perspective, an entrepreneurial mindset, and much more. The address will emphasize the importance of engaging with every sector of our deeply interconnected ecosystem. It will share examples of the joys and struggles involved in “breaking new ground,” being disruptive, challenging dogma, and shifting paradigms; all with an end goal of addressing unmet medical needs and building a more equitable and economically prosperous Australia for all.
