Each year at the AusBiotech International Conference, we proudly host the Millis Oration, a distinguished keynote address held in honor of Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis, celebrating her remarkable contributions to both science and academia. Building on this tradition, AusBiotech is honored to announce the establishment of the Depaz Oration, an annual keynote to be introduced at the AusBiotech International 2025 Conference, paying tribute to the enduring legacy of the late Dr. Iris Depaz.

Both orations represent a unique opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence, leadership, and innovation in life sciences and biotechnology. We invite you to submit nominations for exceptional individuals who embody the spirit of these prestigious orations and can deliver inspiring, thought-provoking addresses that resonate with our community.

Millis Oration

Nomination Criteria

Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis was a pioneering microbiologist whose groundbreaking work in fermentation processes and water purity helped shape Australian biotechnology. A trailblazer in genetic engineering, she also played a pivotal role in developing Australia’s biotechnology education, leaving a lasting legacy in both science and academia.

The nominee should be a distinguished scientist, leader, or pioneer in a field of life sciences including biotechnology.
The nominee should have made significant contributions to advancing Australian biotechnology, with a career dedicated to innovation within the Australian scientific community.
The nominee should demonstrate exceptional leadership, embodying the pioneering spirit and values exemplified by the late Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis.
The nominee should be an Australian who has spent the majority of their career contributing to the advancement of the life sciences industry within Australia.

The nominee should have a proven track record of successfully translating scientific innovations into viable, market-ready products that drive significant impact on healthcare outcomes.
The nominee should have exhibited outstanding vision and strategic thinking in navigating the complexities of commercialisation, including regulatory, financial, and operational challenges.
The nominee should have contributed to the growth of the life sciences industry, promoting collaboration between industry, academia, and government to enhance the commercialisation landscape.
