While all new healthcare ventures are optimistic about their future, the harsh reality is that the pathway to success is often challenging and full of setbacks. The challenge for the leadership is to raise funds by presenting a positive future with great clinical impact and strong commercial returns to investors, while at the same time building a resilient business that can prepare for real risks and weather the inevitable harsh setbacks. Whilst it would be good to have a playbook for success, the reality is that things will not always go to plan, things will go wrong and how you respond to these challenges is vital.
