While all new healthcare ventures are optimistic about their future, the harsh reality is that the pathway to success is often challenging and full of setbacks. The challenge for the leadership is to raise funds by presenting a positive future with great clinical impact and strong commercial returns to investors, while at the same time building a resilient business that can prepare for real risks and weather the inevitable harsh setbacks. Whilst it would be good to have a playbook for success, the reality is that things will not always go to plan, things will go wrong and how you respond to these challenges is vital. This panel will discuss how balancing stakeholder expectations with the operational reality is one of the harder aspects for the C-suite of a budding healthtech company. They will debate the criticality of board judgement around priorities and focus, including the formal aspects of governance and compliance vs working practical aspects of risk management.
