Details
Australia has world leading medical research coming out of its university sector and in the last few years entrepreneurship and increased commercialisation support has become a focus across many universities. This provides local early-stage investors with a pipeline of potential life science opportunities to invest in. But how does that actually play out? To invest in this space, you need an understanding of universities and researchers and ‘how it works’. Who will invest at that initial high-risk stage given the long time to exit individual investments? This panel will discuss what are the key elements of successful investing in early-stage university spin-out outs. Topics covered will include;
- Is there a pipeline of investible projects?
- Why invest so early if risk is high and possibly lower returns?
- Funding requirements and available co-investment partners at the pre-seed, seed and series A stage
- Role of University POC and pre-seed funds in providing deal flow to VC's
- Managing university expectations
- Role of government
